Sub: Health Advisory and other basic information about participation and stay during the workshop

Dear Participants

Greetings from Calcutta Research Group

We would like to inform you that CRG is fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants during the workshop and the conference. As the threat of the pandemic still looms large, we continue to adhere to all safety and health guidelines at the workshop venue and accommodations provided to the participants. Please allow us to explain the safety protocols and hotel rules which you will need to follow during your stay in Kolkata. We request you to read them carefully together with all relevant rules, advisories, etc., issued from time to time by the competent authorities in this regard.

1. Each participant will be required to submit a certificate of full vaccination (2 doses), a Covid19 RT-PCR (not older than 72 hours from the time of your check-in) negative report, and relevant documents/certificate of personal medical insurance.

2. There will be temperature checks everyday as you enter the venue of the workshop and conference.

3. You will observe strict social distancing.

4. You will carry with you your own sanitizer/ masks and such gears and things that you consider necessary during the stay.

5. Please bring your own electronic devices as sharing of these devices, books, notepads, pens and pencils, etc., is strictly prohibited.

6. You are requested not to leave the hotel premises during your stay.

7. We have advised the hotel that guest rooms will be cleaned, fumigated and sealed on a daily basis after the guests leave for the conference. Service persons must not enter the rooms after fumigation unless expressly called.

8. Banquets and meeting rooms will be sanitized before the beginning of the day’s session.

9. Your stay covers breakfast, workshop/conference lunch and pre-set dinner as per our agreement with the hotel which is paid by CRG. Please settle your bills if you order anything extra (like room service, bar and laundry, mini bar etc.); you are requested also to carry your own credit card which the hotel will require at the time of your check-in for payments towards these extra expenditures you may like to incur. Information on accommodation arrangement will be provided to you duly.

10. Please note that the lunch and dinner and breakfast cannot be served in the respective guests rooms as per the hotel security and safety policy.

11. We discourage any visit to the CRG office and library due to Covid-19 restrictions. In case of any emergency, please call us.

We are happy to inform you that for CRG’s Sixth Annual Research & Orientation Workshop & Conference (15-20 November 2021), you have been assigned to:

Module A: Protection and Punishment (race, caste, and policing);

Module B: Migrant workers and the refugee: complicated terrains of welfare and asymmetric social protection;

Module C: Refugees and migrants as subjects of economics, politics, and gender division;

Module D: Forced Migration, law and critical jurisprudence;

Module E: Derogation of rights of refugees and migrants, and situations of statelessness;

For the workshop you are expected to conduct research or work on a creative assignment within the above mentioned theme/Module, under the guidance and supervision of the Module Coordinator and submit research abstract of about 500-600 words by 14 August, 2021 (Saturday). You will also have to submit the full paper (5000-6000 words) for the workshop by 15 October 2021 and make a presentation of your research under the Module in the workshop.

Greetings from Calcutta Research Group.

We are pleased to inform you that a secure web portal (http://www.mcrg.ac.in/wc.asp) of the Sixth Annual Research & Orientation Workshop & Conference on Global Protection of Refugees & Migrants has been created to host information and various materials related to the programme. At present, the portal has the concept note of the programme, the details of the participants and the module coordinators, module notes, reading lists as well as circulars or notifications related to the workshop and the conference. Theme papers by module coordinators, module lectures, research abstracts and papers, programme schedule and other details of the ongoing distance segment and the November event will be subsequently uploaded to it. Any changes or new and pertinent information concerning the workshop and the conference will be generally made available on the portal. We encourage everyone to check the portal for regular updates on the ongoing programme.

Hope you are keeping well and safe.

We are happy to inform you that henceforth, you are granted access to the library and online resources of the Calcutta Research Group available at http://library.mcrg.ac.in/index.php

You may follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Please open the link http://library.mcrg.ac.in/index.php and click on the REGISTRATION tab (in the right hand corner of the webpage).

2. After registration you will receive a verification e-mail in your respective e-mail id (with which you register).

3. After confirmation, you will be able to log-in and access the library resources. Kindly note that the whole process will take at least 24 hours from the time of registration.

4. Once you have registered successfully, click on Login tab (on this page http://library.mcrg.ac.in/index.php) and then use the registered Library User id and Password.

NOTE: You will not be required to pay the library registration fee. The access to CRG library resources will remain open till 20 November 2021.

Sub: Guidelines for Submission of Full Paper for CRG’s Sixth Annual Research & Orientation Workshop

Dear Participants

Greetings from Calcutta Research Group!

We hope your research and writing are progressing well. We are writing this email to gently remind you that you are expected to contribute an original paper of 5000-6000 words in the workshop. The paper must reflect on the specific theme of the module you are participating in. The manuscript should follow the following format:

British English spelling should be used throughout the manuscript.

Font should be Garamond, 12 point.

The manuscript should have 1.5 spacing and be fully justified.

Margins should be 1 inch on top, bottom, left and right.

Notes and references should be compiled at the end of the paper and in the format prescribed in the Chicago Manual of Style, 16 or 17 edition.

The last date of submission is 15 October 2021. We request you to strictly adhere to the deadline.

Sub: Accommodation Details and Health Guidelines

We are happy to share with you the details of your accommodation during CRG’s upcoming workshop and conference on Global Protection of Migrants and Refugees (15-20 November, 2021). Your accommodation has been arranged at the same hotel which will host the event.

Please abide by the following guidelines during your participation in the event:

a) The event is residential in character. Therefore, all participants must stay at the hotel for the entire duration of six days (15 November afternoon to 21 November morning).
b) CRG will implement the relevant safety and security guidelines issued by the state and central governments. Please carry a copy of your COVID-19 vaccination certificate (pdf or print). Participants without full vaccination will be required to produce a negative RT-PCR report, obtained within 72 hours prior to check-in.
c) Please use face masks at the conference venue.
d) Your accommodation covers the stay, breakfast, conference lunch, dinner and refreshments as per the schedule uploaded on the CRG website. These meals must be taken from assigned points at the hotel which will be intimated to the participants. Food or beverages ordered from other points/eateries inside the hotel will not be paid for by CRG. CRG will also not be responsible for any additional hotel services utilised by the participants.
e) Filling the travel form is necessary for managing logistics at the hotel. Kindly fill it if you have not done so yet. The form is available here: https://forms.gle/eJyknGg1u9ADZv5r8. We need to share it with the hotel tomorrow morning.
f) If you wish to reach the hotel on a date earlier than the scheduled check-in date or remain at the hotel after the scheduled check-out date, please let us know. CRG will facilitate it, but the cost of such an additional stay will be borne by the concerned participant.

Sub: Work Responsibilities and Presentation in the Workshop & Conference

Dear Participants

Greetings from the Calcutta Research Group!

We are writing to inform you about the work responsibilities allotted to you from 15 to 20 November 2021 during the workshop and conference.

As part of your responsibilities in the workshop and conference you are expected to be rapporteur in the sessions listed below (please refer to the attachment for the details). We hope that this will provide you with an opportunity to be a more intimate part of this global collaborative venture.
You are requested to note down the details of the date, time, theme of session, names of speakers and title of papers for the session you will be rapporteuring. It is compulsory for the rapporteurs to submit a 250-300 words summary report at the end of the day of the presentations to the forced migration desk at [email protected] with a copy to Anand ([email protected]) and Priyankar ([email protected]).

Please note that during the parallel sessions of the Modules you will be required to make a presentation on your paper for about 20 to 25 minutes followed by discussion.

We will share the Zoom link for joining the sessions online very soon (for participants who will not be coming to the venue in Kolkata).
