OBITUARY GIL LOESCHER (1945-2020)

Professor Gil Loescher (1945-2020) was a long-established expert on international refugee policy. For over 25 years, he was attached to several well-known institutions – Princeton University, London School of Economics, Oxford University, University of Notre Dame (United States); and was a visiting fellow at and the Department of Humanitarian Affairs at the US State Department in Washington DC. In recent years he was a Senior Fellow for Forced Migration and International Security at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, and a senior researcher at the European Council on Refugees and Exiles. He served as a consultant to numerous governments, international organisations, non-governmental organisations, foundations and research institutes. His well-known works include Calculated Kindness; Protracted Refugee Situations: Domestic & International Security Implications and The UNHCR and World Politics: A Perilous Path. We at CRG are deeply saddened by this loss, and will remember him fondly in our work.
