Honorary Senior Researchers
Professor Paula Banerjee, best known for her work on women in borderlands and women and forced migration, was the former Vice Chancellor of the Sanskrit University and the former President of International Association for Studies in Forced Migration. She is a Professor and the Head of the Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies, University of Calcutta, one of the largest and oldest universities in South Asia. She is a Senior Researcher at the Calcutta Research Group, known for its research on migration and forced migration studies. Winner of many awards, accolades and fellowships, in 2013 she was awarded the Fulbright SIR and in 2009 she won the SITRA-CIMO award. Her recent publications include Gender, Identity and Migration (2022), Indian Migrant Workers and the Pandemic (2021), Statelessness in South Asia (2016), Unstable Populations, Anxious States (edited 2013) and Borders, Histories, Existences: Gender and Beyond (2010). She is the editor of Refugee Watch and the editorial board member of a number of international journals such as Oxford Journal of Refugees. She is a visiting professor at the Carl Von Ossietzky University, Oldenburg, Germany.
